Description
This class will cover most tasks crew might be expected to perform on Mashnee. It will be an intensive introduction for new sailors, or mostly review for experienced sailors.
On-the-water training will include:
- raising/lowering main
- unfurling/furling jib
- tacks/gybes
- proper sail trim
- reefing main
- swapping jib
- rigging spinnaker
- heaving to
- mooring approach/departure
Off-the-water training will include:
- basic navigation
- rules of the road
- aids to navigation
- reading a paper chart
- use of GPS
- common routes for day sails in Boston Harbor
- federal safety requirements
- navigation lights on Mashnee
- checking bilges
- radio procedure
- safe winch operation
- knots
Time allowing, I might try to also cover crew overboard procedure and/or docking.
