Description
This session is for current sailing card holders who have been through one of our intro for beginner class, experienced classes or PE classes.
Registration above is optional but it helps us plan accordingly.
Why is the tiller extension important?
1) It will make sailing more comfortable for you (no more reaching alllll the way across the boat to tack)
2) You will have more control in keeping your boat flat during puffs/gusts
3) Many of our boats (and boats outside of MIT!) typically sail using the tiller exptension exclusively.
4) It looks cool
This brief demonstration will cover:
- how to hold the tiller extension correctly to be effective
- how to steer using the universal joint connecting the tiller to the extension
- switching sides - tack versus jibe
- hiking out - how to keep your boat flat during puffs
- plus some light supervision if you decide to rig up afterwards to go practice!
This class is weather dependent - I'll notify the group if we postpone.
