Mashnee Dedication

Fri 10-May-201915:30-18:00

Description

The Mashnee will be dockside at the MIT Sailing Pavilion on May 10, from 3:30 to 6 pm, where the Rozendaal family will be honored and thanked for their incredible gift of this exquisite boat. Multiple sailing trips in the Charles River shall follow until sunset. Mashnee will be further available for sails and walk-on tours until May 15 for all those interested. She may be the largest vessel to sail on the Charles River since the Longfellow Bridge was first built in 1793.

Mashnee is a 1902 Herreshoff design which was completely rebuilt to museum quality standards from 2008-2010. Her gift to MIT by Mary Jane and Jan Rozendaal of South Burlington,Vermont came in December of 2017. Nearly every day last summer the boat was skippered and crewed by MIT students who sailed for enjoyment and who also competed in regattas in Massachusetts and Maine. Her maintenance is entirely supported by the Ralph Evans Fund for Bluewater Sailing at MIT.
