Description

Introduction to the Sailing Pavilion and the Tech Dinghy for Experienced Sailors new to MIT Sailing. This includes those who have sailed the Firefly or Tech Dinghy in the past and want to learn how to rig a new Tech Dinghy. Class attendees must have current access to DAPER facilities (included for all MIT students!).

Class date: Tuesday, September 21st

Class time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm

This orientatation happens in tandem with day one of the Mid-Week Learn-to Sail course, and the rigging/sailing demos will reflect that. Due to limited capacity, Introduction of Experienced Sailors does not include sailing time unless otherwise noted. However you want to take out your own boat after the rigging demo, you are welcomed and encouraged to do so!

Class will be about 1.5 hours long  and covers:

  • Tour of the facility - what we have and where it all is - how you can use it.
  • Detailed rigging demo of a Tech Dinghy.
  • Double-handed sailing demos

Requirements:

  • You want to sail at MIT.

  • You know how to sail singlehandedly and rig a small boat of some kind.

  • You are a member of the MIT community cleared for access via MIT Covid Pass and DAPER facilities
