Description

NOTE: Pre-registration is mandatory, you must be a MITNA member!

The class will be about three hours long and concentrate on rigging a windsurf and general rig handling.

You must have a swim rating or must have taken a learn to sail class in order to sign up.

When learning to windsurf it is very useful to understand the basic ideas behind sailing. Please be fully proficient with the following terms:

  • Tacking and jibing.
  • Understanding of going updwind and downwind.
  • Know the major parts of a rig: main sail, boom, downhaul, outhaul, boom vang.
  • Be very conformtable getting wet: you will do a lot of swimming during this class!

The class will start at the advertised time with the rigging and general board handling demo. We try to give students as much board time as possbiel. However, since we have four boards available for the class, so we may have to "share" the boards during the class.

If the class gets filled beyond capacity, please continue to register for the class. Those who we can't accomodate in this class will be given priority for the next. This serves as a pseudo-waitlist and gives us an idea of how to space out classes.

NOTE : If wind/weather conditions are not favorable, this event may get postponed.

Please bring comfortable swim wear and a towel. If you have a wetsuit, you may want to bring that along.

If you already know how to windsurf and would like to learn how to rig and use the equipment at the MIT sailing pavilion, please show up to the first part of this class where we demo rigging of the sails. In this case, you don't have to sign up for the class or register. Just show up.

Finally, please review the intro to windsurfing videos. This is required as it will help you get more familiar with what you are expected to do.

The more you watch the video(s) before class, the more time you'll have to windsurf.
