Description
This is the first of 3 sessions where we will try to cover the practical aspects of bluewater navigation: basic definitions and ideas, using paper and electronic charts to orient yourself relative to destinations and dangers, trip planning, and the integration of external data (e.g. weather, currents).
This session is a combination of basic navigational terms and ideas, and paper chart plotting.
We will be covering:
-
Basic ideas - Lat, Lon, distance on a chart
-
True v. magnetic headings
-
Important chart symbols
-
How to plot your position on a chart from observations
We will practice these skills with a set of in-class exercises. Please sign up to ensure enough materials.
Note: all Bluewater Winter Sessions will meet in room 2-131.
