NOTICE OF RACE

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

1.2 The prescriptions of the US national authority will apply.

1.3 The class rules of the intercollegiate dinghy class as described in The Procedural Rules for Intercollegiate Sailing Competition Fall 2005 - Spring 2008 will apply.

2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 The regatta is open to the first eighteen teams who submit a completed Entry Forms and pay electronically to the MIT Sailing Pavilion through their automated web server
Accepted entries will be updated as they are received and may be viewed at teams attending. Do not attempt to deliver entries to the MIT Sailing Pavilion.

2.2 All competitors must be current members of Mass Bay Sailing as well as US Sailing. This is the competitor's responsibility.

2.3 Once a competitor enters an elimination event for the purpose of qualifying for a National Championship, they will not be eligible to qualify for that Championship in any other quarter or semi-final event for that year.

All competitors must:
A. Have reached their 13th birthday, but not their 19th birthday during the calendar year.
B. Be members of the same Sailing Club.
C. A Competitor may only sail in the elimination for the Area in which he or she resides in or regularly competes. Each competitor's Sailing Club shall be located within the geographical borders of the Area conducting the elimination.

2.4 The top three boats will qualify for the Area A Championship to be held on July 31st - August  1st at Conanicut YC in Jamestown, RI in Club 420s. Those competitors who qualify must make a decision whether or not they will compete before leaving MIT on July 18.

3 FEES

Entry fee for a boat will be $45.

4 SCHEDULE

Wednesday July 18, 2006

0930 Check in
1000 Clinic with rigging tips, sailing demonstration, on the water drills for boat handling.
1200 noon Lunch break. Many economical food options close by.
1300- 1700 Racing for the Mass Bay Championship. Awards immediately after sailing.

5 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available online as well as posted at the pavilion.

6 VENUE

Racing will be conducted from the MIT sailing pavilion on the Charles River lower basin. Parking is virtually non existent before 3 pm. Please travel by Red Line to Kendall T stop. Two minute walk from there. Bring a bailing bucket, tell tales, water bottle, life jacket, sun screen and some lunch money. Great spectating for your folks to enjoy at the end of the afternoon. Plenty of parking on Mem Drive after 3 in the afternoon.

7 OUTSIDE CONTACT WITH COMPETITORS

Competitors shall not receive advice, instruction, or any type of outside assistance including electronic communication devices while at the sailing venue during the clinic and racing days. It is the intent of this rule to prohibit contact between competitors and any person who, in the opinion of the Protest Committee, is a coach, instructor or advisor during the clinic or during the race day.

8 SCORING and FORMAT

Scoring will be the Low Point System with no discard race. Collegiate FJs will be supplied and rotations will occur every two races.

9 SAFETY

All competitors shall wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD at all times while on the water. They are encouraged to bring lunch money, tell tales and a bailing bucket.

10 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
