Description

This session is limited to current sailing card holders who have been through one of our intro for beginner or experienced classes.

Registration is optional (but very helpful for planning purposes!)

Why is the tiller extension important?

1) It will make sailing more comfortable for you (no more reaching alllll the way across the boat to tack)

2) You will have more control in keeping your boat flat during puffs/gusts

3) Many of our boats (and boats outside of MIT!) typically sail using the tiller exptension exclusively.

4) It looks cool

This brief demonstartion will cover:

  • how to hold the tiller extension correctly to be effective
  • how to steer using the universal joint connecting the tiller to the extension
  • swtiching sides - tack versus jibe
  • hiking out - how to keep your boat flat during puffs
  • plus some light supervision if you decide to rig up afterwards to go practice!

This class is weather dependent - I'll notify the group if we postpone.
