Outstanding Tasks

  • replace windows (8 of them)
  • replace hatches (2 of them)
  • replace batteries and battery wiring
  • replace boom pin with a pin that has a head
  • renew coast guard documentation (ted, fcharles)
    • put the Certificate of Documentation aboard (ted)
  • Repair/upgrade traveller (mwall, ksovie)
    • measure buy and install new lines
    • install new cam cleats inside of dodger
  • whip and seal bitter end of spinnaker halyard
  • procure/install proper anti-siphon valve on engine seawater out
  • Change transmission fluid (ThomS)
  • Adjust throttle friction so it doesn't slow engine down after we set it to an RPM
    • we don't know whether this is a binnacle or engine adjustment
    • now we use the mini-bungee cord loop on the binnacle U-frame
  • Adjust stuffing box after running the engine awhile, assess drippage and tighten accordingly.
  • scan Fall '07 survey report (to put on wiki?) or just put aboard Nevermore? (fcharles)
  • cushions (mwishear)
    • cut new foam for cushions
    • make new cushion covers
  • diagnose and document electrical system (tspettel & tyoung)

      • NOTE: in Jul08 the original battery charger (converter) and its wiring were removed;
        a new system is planned, to be usable with newer 12-volt battery technologies;

      • TODO: test the "blue-wire" charging-inhibition circuit which activates when engine runs
      • write up operator steps for normal use (after new (>Jul08) battery & charger system installed

    • replacement ordered from ebay for $0.99. Seems to work.
  • replace missing screw on base of furler (tspettel)
  • Woodworking (dca)
    • Supplement sides of starboard lazarette to prevent items from falling under engine
    • Fit & install wood around mast step
  • diagnose and test autonav (ted)
    • determine why it seized before reconnecting it to the rudder.
  • clean and lube winches
    • NOTE: there are at least 2 booklets with instructions in ship's reference booklets (accordion folder)
  • procure a new dinghy (boat, boards, motor)
  • replace faulty head seals
    • NOTE: head tune-up kits are aboard (in big plastic box marked something like "spare parts")
  • replace all head hoses
  • install LED lighting (rcleary has some details of replacement parts)
  • de-scale mast
  • sand and refinish topside brightwork (mwall has the cetol for this and the removable brightwork)
  • wiring needs to be tidied up, specifically raised to be further from water levels
  • replace manual bilge pump (handle socket is fractured)
  • install capture wires on anchor retention pin(s)
  • build slots for holding washboards
  • add zippers or windows to bimini so you can see the sails, then install bimini


Cleaning Tasks (ongoing)

  • bilge
    • the bilge needs to be scrubbed with brushes and flushed numerous times (still filthy 6/29/08) (ksovie)
  • kitchen
    • clean/tune stove and oven
  • main cabin
    • scrub all wood surfaces with murphy's wood soap (diluted)
    • scrub ceiling of main cabin
    • scrub ceiling of main cabin berths
  • starboard lazarette
    • remove everything from lazarette then scrub it (use brushes), then put everything back when the lazarette has dried out
  • aft lazarette
    • remove everything from lazarette (including wood panels), then scrub the hull and wood panels
  • head
    • scrub all surfaces in the head
    • remove everything from cupboards and scrub them out
    • drain holding tank then flush it a few times
    • scrub the hull under the sink
    • clean drain pan and grid


Winter 2008-2009 Tasks

  • replace prop shaft and coupling
  • replace cutlass bearing

  • 29jul08 fix blower and move its hose to bilge (DONE)
  • jun08 inspect top-of-mast furler, stays, swages, etc (ted, mwall)
    • as of 10may08, there is rusty patina on some stays, but no cracks or broken strands
  • jul08 assess rudder situation
    • unsieze the rudder (DONE mwall)
    • assess/repair fibreglass cracks
    • anti-fouling paint to rudder inner surfaces (DONE)

      • hookup oil cooler raw water feed (removed when looking for water in oil) (DONE)
