Maintenance Tasks (ongoing)

These tasks should be done after each trip.

• dinghy
  • scrub floor
  • freshwater rinse
  • wipe salt residue from motor surfaces

• deck
  • scrub the decks
  • remove scuff marks from transom and aft hull
  • freshwater rinse exterior above the waterline
  • flush soot and dirt from toe rails

• head
  • drain holding tank then flush it a few times
  • scrub/wipe all surfaces
  • clean drain pan and grid

• bilge
  • scrub with brushes and rinse
  • clean bilge well of any particles
  • remove all slime and debris from pump strainers

• kitchen
  • clean stove and oven
  • clean sinks
  • clean countertops

• main cabin
  • wipe/scrub all wood surfaces with murphy's wood soap (diluted)
  • wipe/scrub ceiling with simple green (diluted)
  • wipe/scrub hatches and mast with simple green (diluted) to remove salt residue

Critical Tasks

These are tasks that must be taken care of immediately to ensure the legal and safe operation of the boat, or to prevent immediate damage to the boat.

• fabricate something in aft lazarette to prevent gasoline tank from sliding around or spilling

• re-seat port cockpit access panels
  • re-mount buzzer in better location
  • replace existing stop cable with longer cable
  • fix blower and move blower hose to bottom of engine compartment

• retrieve tube (part of cover frame) from bottom of harbor at admiral's hill

• check hot water tank anode

• troubleshoot engine start problem - circuit breaker trips randomly (Oct 2010), probably fixed (06Nov10)
  • (CB inability to reset problem temp fixed; CB extraneous tripping probably also temp fixed.)
  • Monitor and log & report any occurrence of preheat or starter not working, Ckt Brkr tripping.

High Priority Tasks

These are tasks that must be done as soon as possible to ensure the safe, legal operation of the boat or to prevent damage to the vessel.

• repair leak in dinghy starboard float

• replace head pump handle

• install winch handle pockets in cockpit (mwall)

• fabricate new v-berth cabin floor (mwall)

• finish cabin floor refinishing (mwall)

• repair latch mechanism on cabinet door in the head (mwall)

• fix leak (O-ring?) in head pumpout Y-valve [observed by SteveB/KennS 13Sep09]

• change transmission fluid

• add alternator protector device (in case all batteries OFF with engine running)

Medium Priority Tasks

These are important tasks that should be taken care of as soon as possible to provide for efficient, enjoyable operation of the boat, but which do not pose an immediate safety risk or prevent operation of the boat.

• repair broken valve cap retainer string on dinghy starboard float

• replace dinghy pump bag with something more robust

• paint registration lettering on dinghy

• install T fitting in holding tank hose, with connection to deck for freshwater flushing

• procure/install proper anti-siphon valve on engine seawater out

• install strainer on seawater intake for head

• install anti-siphon loop on seawater intake for head

• secure holding tank

• fix stove hoses and tank, - stove and/or tank is leaking - will only hold pressure for about 2 hours - requires extended repeated pumping to operate

• reinstall RADAR antenna & wiring (ted)

• cushions (gwen, mwall)

Low Priority Tasks

These are tasks that would be nice to have done, but which have a lesser immediacy associated with them.

• install new AM/FM radio (ted)

• mount external speaker and/or mic for VHF radio in cockpit

• install LED cabin lighting

• diagnose and test autonav
  • determine why it seized before reconnecting it to the rudder.

• diagnose and repair refrigerator (tyoung)

• replace manual bilge pump (handle socket is fractured)

• build slots for holding washboards in galley
