Nevermore is on the hard in a parking lot directly next to the MBTA Harbor Express ferry terminal in Quincy.

Spring 2008 Tasks

before mast re-step

before re-float

  • renew coast guard documentation (ted, fcharles)
    • put the Certificate of Documentation aboard (ted)
  • replace head thru-hull fittings (mwall)
    • head output thruhull leaks inside the hull
    • head input thruhull has de-laminated, neet to re-epoxy
    • new depth sounder thruhull (ted)
  • engine tune-up
    • replace engine raw water inlet elbow with straight barb (ThomS)
    • replace raw-water hose from separator to pump inlet (ThomS)
    • run engine and check lube oil level and freshwater cooling level, and leaks (ThomS)
      • hookup oil cooler raw water feed (removed when looking for water in oil)
      • install air-release valve in raw water anti-siphon loop
        • will install temporary valve (household "coin valve")
        • (later procure/install proper anti-siphon valve)
    • Change transmission fluid (after launch, if necessary) (ThomS)
  • install new depth sounder and sensor (ted, mwall)
    • new transducer thru-hull has been installed in the hull.
    • core needs to be installed and wires need to be run to the instrument.
  • fix bilge pump
  • prep and re-paint/touch-up hull (ablative paint) (mwall, others?)
  • repaint name and hailing port on stern (ksovie & his son)

    • remove old name & hailing port using wet 500+ sandpaper, possibly acetone to help (DONE)
    • procure/cut new vinyl lettering (DONE)
    • install new lettering (Will be complete before splash - assumes splash June 14)
    • "fix" lettering (weatherproof, waterproof, sea-proof) if required
      - -(after lettering is done transom will be compounded/waxed - Kenn believes that this is all that will be required)

at re-float

  • Final assembly of mast electronics: RADAR antenna, wind instruments, etc (want to leave off during trucking)
  • Re-rig centerboard pennant thru mast (during mast step)
  • connect electric wires from mast
    • top-of-mast lights (4 wires), masthead/deck lights (3 wires), VHF (coax),
      RADAR (n-wire cable), wind indicator cable

before general sailing

  • Repair/upgrade traveller (See fix traveller page] (mwall, ksovie)
    • measure buy and install new lines
    • install new cam cleats inside of dodger
  • install new bilge pump float switch (tyoung)
    • new switch arrived and ready to be installed
    • locate new switch aboard and store it in "new parts" plastic box
  • Replace centerboard pennant (WHO)
    • arrange with a boatyard for a post-splash "survey" haulout (e.g. over lunchtime) on TraveLift
    • re-reave new line
      • (see Owner's Instructions pages 4-5, 5A, 14-15, 15A)
      • (and TedY studied how to do it Fall '07, has emails, notes?)

    • Supplement sides of starboard lazarette to prevent items from falling under engine
    • Build shelves for storage under v-berth

    • remove compass and take to Fran at pavilion (DONE TedY)
    • take to get it repaired (fcharles)
  • replace freshwater hoses (mwall)
  • secure nav light wiring in anchor compartment (ted)

Cleaning Tasks

  • clean kitchen again/more (samajane)
    • ongoing see below
  • clean/tune stove and oven (tyoung)
  • main cabin
    • scrub all wood surfaces with murphy's wood soap (diluted)
    • scrub ceiling of main cabin
  • starboard lazarette
    • remove everything from lazarette then scrub it (use brushes), then put everything back when the lazarette has dried out
  • aft lazarette
    • remove everything from lazaretted (including wood panels) then scrub the hull and wood panels
  • head
    • remove everything from cupboards and scrub them out
    • scrub all surfaces in the head
    • holding tank needs to be drained then flushed a few times
    • scrub the hull under the sink. beware of the outbound thru-hull fitting - it leaks already and we do not want to sink the boat by knocking it off or exacerbating the leak.


Unclaimed Tasks

  • clean and lube winches
  • outfit dinghy (boat, boards, motor)
  • replace faulty head seals (NOTE: head tune-up kits are aboard)
  • replace all head hoses
  • install LED lighting (rcleary has some details of replacement parts)
  • de-scale mast (in cabin)
  • tighten lifelines
  • sand and refinish topside brightwork (mwall has the cetol for this and the removable brightwork)
  • spec and order new speedometer
  • wiring needs to be tidied up, specifically raised to be further from water levels
  • replace manual bilge pump (handle socket is fractured)
  • install capture wires on anchor retention pin(s)
  • fix blower and move its hose to bilge
  • build slots for holding washboards
  • add zippers or windows to bimini so you can see the sails.

  • bilge
    • after everything else has been cleaned, the bilge needs to be scrubbed with brushes and flushed numerous times (ksovie)
  • replace fresh air intake cowl (dorade) on deck (ksovie)
