This is the checklist of things to do before getting underway.

  • Freshwater rinse dinghy before use, scrub floor with brush
  • Review rules with crew:
    • Only shoes with light-colored, non-marking soles permitted on the dinghy and boat
    • No toilet paper in toilet
    • Only sit-down use of toilet
  • Remove companionway boards, stow in starboard lazarette
  • Check recent log entries
  • Make log entry, including at least the following:
    • date and time
    • name of each person on board
  • Check bilge water level and pump out if necessary (switch next to nav table).
  • Check holding tank level
  • Check fuel level
  • Check engine oil and coolant levels and top off if necessary
  • Set battery switch to "House" (battery switch is on panel above galley sink)
  • Configure electrical panels to desired operation, typically
    • Fuel lift pump "on"
    • Navigation Instruments "on"
    • VHF radio "on"
    • Chart plotter "on"
  • Mount ensign on stern rail
  • Hoist MITNA burgee
  • Give basic lecture for new sailors (must be less than 10 minutes):
    • location and use of life jackets
    • lifelines and safety when going forward on deck
