Spring 2008 Tasks
before mast re-step
- inspect top-of-mast furler, stays, swages, etc (ted, mwall)
- as of 10may08, there is rusty patina on some stays, but no cracks or broken strands
before re-float
- renew coast guard documentation (ted, fcharles)
- put the Certificate of Documentation aboard (ted)
- assess rudder situation
- unsieze the rudder (DONE mwall)
- assess/repair fibreglass cracks
- anti-fouling paint to rudder inner surfaces
- prop and drive shaft
- finish polishing
- apply anti-fouling paint
- install zincs
- replace head thru-hull fittings (tyoung, mwall)
- new flange/fairing on input thruhull (DONE)
- remove old thruhull and install new one (DONE)
- install new valve and hose barb to the new thruhull
- procure and install new spinnaker halyard
- engine tune-up
- replace engine raw water inlet elbow with straight barb (DONE)
- replace raw-water hose from separator to pump inlet (ThomS)
- run engine and check lube oil level and freshwater cooling level, and leaks (DONE)
- fuel seeps minimized, need more parts to be better (DONE (to a point))
- order parts (after July 4th holidays)
- one oil seep (dip-stick tube -to- pan) can't be fixed? (per previous owner log)
- hookup oil cooler raw water feed (removed when looking for water in oil) (DONE)
- install air-release valve in raw water anti-siphon loop (ThomS)
- install temporary valve (household "coin valve") (DONE)
- mount anti-siphon loop reliably above waterline (ThomS
- (later procure/install proper anti-siphon valve (if we want one) (ThomS)
- fuel seeps minimized, need more parts to be better (DONE (to a point))
- Change transmission fluid (after launch, if necessary) (ThomS)
- install bonding wire and ensure proper grounding (ted, mwall)
- tie in wires to mast, shrouds (DONE)
- Replace rusty nuts & bolts on stem plate.
- remove old nuts/bolts (DONE ted, asilveira)
- procure new nuts and bolts (5x 3/8-16 flat-head stainless bolts, 4x 2" long, & 1x 2-1/2" long)
- prep surfaces, seal and reinstall.
- repaint name and hailing port on stern (ksovie & his son)
- remove old name & hailing port using wet 500+ sandpaper, possibly acetone to help (DONE)
- procure/cut new vinyl lettering (DONE)
- install new lettering (DONE)
- compound/wax transom - (ksovie)
at re-float
- Re-rig centerboard pennant thru mast (during mast step)
- (see Owner's Instructions pages 4-5, 5A, 14-15, 15A)
- connect electric wires from mast
- top-of-mast lights (4 wires), masthead/deck lights (3 wires), VHF (coax), RADAR (multi-wire cable), wind indicator (multi-wire cable)
- Return loaned equipment to owners for winterizing
before general sailing
- reinstall tricolor (ted)
- reinstall windex (ted)
- Repair/upgrade traveller (See fix traveller page] (mwall, ksovie)
- measure buy and install new lines
- install new cam cleats inside of dodger
- install mounting bracket for bilge pump air bell (tyoung)
- Replace centerboard pennant (WHO)
- arrange with a boatyard for a post-splash "survey" haulout (e.g. over lunchtime) on TraveLift
- re-reave new line
- (see Owner's Instructions pages 4-5, 5A, 14-15, 15A)
- Adjust throttle friction so it doesn't slow engine down after we set it to an RPM
- we don't know whether this is a binnacle or engine adjustment
- now we use the mini-bungee cord loop on the binnacle U-frame
- Adjust stuffing box
- after running the engine awhile, assess drippage and tighten accordingly.

- Woodworking (dca)
- Fit & install support for aft lazarette shelf (above steering)
- Shelf under nav berth
- Supplement sides of starboard lazarette to prevent items from falling under engine
- Build shelves for storage under v-berth
- replace freshwater hoses (mwall)
- attach new hot water heater
- remove remaining old hoses
- freshwater system diagram
- diagnose and test autonav (ted)
- determine why it seized before reconnecting it to the rudder.
Cleaning Tasks (ongoing)
- bilge
- the bilge needs to be scrubbed with brushes and flushed numerous times (still filthy 6/29/08) (ksovie)
- kitchen
- clean/tune stove and oven
- main cabin
- scrub all wood surfaces with murphy's wood soap (diluted)
- scrub ceiling of main cabin
- scrub ceiling of main cabin berths
- starboard lazarette
- remove everything from lazarette then scrub it (use brushes), then put everything back when the lazarette has dried out
- aft lazarette
- remove everything from lazarette (including wood panels), then scrub the hull and wood panels
- head
- scrub all surfaces in the head
- remove everything from cupboards and scrub them out
- drain holding tank then flush it a few times
- scrub the hull under the sink
- clean drain pan and grid
Unclaimed Tasks
- clean and lube winches
- NOTE: there are at least 2 booklets with instructions in ship's reference booklets (accordion folder)
- outfit dinghy (boat, boards, motor)
- replace faulty head seals
- NOTE: head tune-up kits are aboard (in big plastic box marked something like "spare parts")
- replace all head hoses
- install LED lighting (rcleary has some details of replacement parts)
- de-scale mast (in cabin)
- tighten lifelines
- sand and refinish topside brightwork (mwall has the cetol for this and the removable brightwork)
- wiring needs to be tidied up, specifically raised to be further from water levels
- replace manual bilge pump (handle socket is fractured)
- install capture wires on anchor retention pin(s)
- fix blower and move its hose to bilge
- build slots for holding washboards
- add zippers or windows to bimini so you can see the sails.
