This is the checklist of things to do before leaving the boat.

    * Remove ensign from stern and stow.

    * Stow winch handles in tray in starboard lazarette

** As needed, rinse the deck, brightwork, and metal with fresh water
    * Stow boat hook in starboard lazarette.

** Ensure that headsail is furled and secured, cover is hoisted, and jib sheets are tight
    * Replace metal binnacle cover if removed.

** Replace cowl vents
    * Ensure that mainsail is well-tied and covered.

** Confirm the mooring line is on and tied off
    * Ensure that headsail is furled and secured, and jib sheets are tight.

** Ensure the main halyard is attached to the deck fitting, not the head of the sail
    * Ensure that main halyard is attached to aft end of boom and boom is held level.

** Stow winch handles in little deck boxes
    * Ensure that the boom and sailcover will not touch the dodger.

** Ensure the engine key is off and removed
    * Close hatches (there are 3) and window ports (there is 1).

** Lash the rudder

** Tie a lateral line to the aft end of the boom to prevent it from swinging
    * Tidy up

** Remove tension from the hydraulic backstay
          o wipe kitchen surfaces

** Ensure all flags are stowed

** Place and secure canvas covers on forward hatch, jib furling line hole, mainsail, cabin (including cushion), aft hatch, and backstay
          o sweep/wipe cockpit surfaces

          o wash/scrub topsides with freshwater

    * Complete log entry, including:

          o date and time

** Check that the head is clean and empty
          o estimated engine hours and fuel level (use mechanical gauge underneath port salon bunk cushion)

** Confirm all hatches (3) and port lights (2) are closed and secured (at least with bungees)
          o name of person making the entry

** Ensure the sink seacock is closed
          o description of trip, including destination, route, weather

** Remove all trash from the boat
          o enumeration of things that were repaired, need to be repaired, will soon need to be repaired

    * Stow cockpit cushions on edge in cabin.

Before leaving the boat

  • On Deck
