Two-thirds of the way up the mast is a fixture that is a combination masthead light and foredeck light. It was dangling by its wire when we got the boat. The fixture has been removed from the mast (Ted has it) and the wires have been separated and wrapped with electrical tape.

The circuit breakers for these two circuites (labeled "Steaming Light" and "Foredeck Light") trip when they are turned on. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for them to trip. The wires inside the mast may be exposed and shorting to each other or to the mast when the boat rocks in the waves.

If possible, these bad wires should be disconnected at the base of the mast and pulled through the mast, and new wires should be run. This may not be possible and it may be necessary to pull the mast out of the boat to replace the wires.
