End of 2025 season

Out-of-water observations:

• Bottom paint: needs solid scraping and renewal. General cracking along plank lines. Bare patches, including one bare long enough to grow a barnacle
• Topsides paint: some dings aft, but generally in good condition. Light cracking along plank lines
• Toerails: wear consistent with use in places
• Bowsprit: varnish cracked through to the wood at end, where the Code Zero furler would hit it. Some discoloration around cracks
• Cabin top and hatches: varnish in good shape, need surface renewal only
• Forward hatch: strut is detached from hatch: bedding block for the screws needs to be repaired or replaced
• Propeller/shaft/zincs: zincs showing surface wear only. Marine growth on propeller and shaft
• Rudder: marine growth between rudder post and hull

Inboard observations:

• Chainplates: deep green for the most part, worst near stainless steel diagonal stringers; do not show significant change from spring 2025 or fall 2024
• Mast Step: ok
• Mild mildew growth throughout interior (washed down with mild bleach and water rinse, left compartments open to air)
• Unclear if engine has been winterized or routine maintenance carried out yet (Nov. 8, 2025)

Mast and Rig

Bowsprit

• Stainless steel U-shaped shackle connecting forestay to bowsprit has surface rust at top, beneath roller curler
• Pin securing lower end of bobstay is not secure

Mast:

• Space block under forestay tang could use rebedding again--bedding compound is missing around upper edges. Check discolored wood for rot at the same time.
• The upper and lower bronze halyard guides show discolored wood around individual screws. Check for rot.
• Upper spreader plates are bowed, but appear secure and flush to the mast at the screws

Boom:

• Varnish scratches, dings with missing varnish, and clumsy epoxy repairs in an area aft of the starboard side deep reef sheave

Forestay:

• There is now a plastic cap over the top of the foil, but the interior pieces to stabilize the foil are still missing

Shrouds:

• Surface rust color on some of the terminals and coffee staining coming from some of the swages

Sail Inspection

Mainsail:

• Good shape: no repairs anticipated
• Minor deformation to one grommet

160:

• Bolt rope separated from sail at head, ~3 inches
• Stitching broken along a batten pocket, leaving batten pocket free to lift away from sail
• Velcro tearing free on 3rd batten pocket from bottom
• Lower spreader patch detaching from edges (MIT fix)
• Some wear along foot tabling
• Missing both foot battens

140:

• Bolt rope cover torn for 4 inches from tack
• Old repair over bolt rope wearing

Working jib (old)

• Broken stitching at head
• Minor fraying along bolt rope, about halfway up
• Some stains from mildew, not progressed since 2023

Big Red Spinnaker

• Strand 50% broken in bolt rope at clew: could be fixed by shortening bolt rope by one inch
• Showing mild generalized wear

White Spinnaker

• OK

Code Zero

• Not unrolled for inspection.

Running Rigging

(Numerical key: 1 = good condition, close to new; 2 = light wear, no problems; 3 = moderate wear, nothing concerning; 4 = moderate wear, monitor, plan replacement; 5 = replace this season)

Running backstays, standing part (new 2024)

• Starboard: 3. Moderate surface wear. No heat deformation. At Dion's
• Port: 2. Light surface wear. No heat deformation. At Dion's

Running backstays, running part

• 3. Moderate wear across length. At Pavilion
• 4. Moderate wear. A few pulled strands in cover. At Pavilion

Topping lift

• 4. Moderate to moderate-heavy wear along length. Some minor heat damage in the top splice and soft shackle. At Dion's

Main halyard:

• 5. Splice between coated and uncoated sections separating and heavily worn. Heavy wear on last two feet before the sail shackle. Moderate-heavy wear elsewhere. At Pavilion

Main sheet (new 2024)

• 3. Surface wear, light. Yarns look strong across rope. Uneven pull on strands ~1/3 of distance from standing end. End for end this year. At Pavilion

Main outhaul

Deep reef outhaul (spare line rigged as outhaul in 2025)

• 3. Moderate-heavy wear on working end. End-for-end. At Pavilion

Shallow reef outhaul (spare line rigged as outhaul in 2025)

• 2. Light wear. At Pavilion

Jib halyard

• 3. Moderate wear, especially at standing end and at specific block wear points. A few pulled strands in working end. End for end? At Dion's

Jib sheets

• Old sheets: 3. Moderate-heavy wear across coating on both sheets. Both have broken stands ~4 inches from one of the end. At Pavilion
• The new sheets from 2024 are unused in our cubby at Dion's--they evidently didn't make it on the boat in 2025. At Dion's

• 4. Moderate-heavy wear along standing end half. End for end? At Dion's
