Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need to be on MIT's Covid-Pass if I am fully vaccinated or regularly tested (negative)?

>>> At the moment, everyone in the MIT Community (who is not currently testing positive) is welcome to visit the Pavilion if fully vaccinated, with or without Covid-Pass.

This includes students, staff, faculty, alumni, and their family. Accompanied guests may also be brought down by Sailing Pavilion cardholders.

We do require that everyone going out in a boat be able to Swim sufficiently .

Read the Description info, then use the menu above it to get to the Registration page.

Sign up anytime before Registration closes at 10:00 am. Confirmations based on position in Priority Queue.

It will help if you are already logged into your Sailing Pavilion Account and have filled in your Account info.

(Membership Type can be Virtual, but better if Normal for full setup – Swim Test initialed - to get a sailing card later.)

Expect there will be many more classes throughout the Spring and Summer,

so don’t worry if you don’t qualify yet or don’t get into this one!

Information List Emails - when will they stop?

>>> Once you complete a Learn-to-Sail class (or the Experienced Intro), your entry here will be set to Confirmed

and you should not get further LTS emails (unless requested).

Can also email me or just Cancel to avoid further notes. List will close down altogether at the end of the year.

We may set up a second mailing list for Advanced Sailing Classes Information later on for those interested.

After I take a Learn-to-Sail Class, how do I get to sail the Lynx Catboats?

>>> After taking the Learn-to-Sail class you will have a Swim Rating.

Ideally should practice and build experience and expertise in the Tech Dinghies and then get your Provisional Rating.

     http://sailing.mit.edu/card/ratings.php

After getting the Provisional Rating, suggest you review the Lynx Videos online, and then ask for help from the Dockstaff to get started.

Can also take an advanced Lynx class once we start to offer those.
