In the event of a hurricane or other big storm approaching, the following should be done:

  • If two mooring pennants are not available, add a dockline as a second mooring line, tied with a bowline to the mooring ball and secured the other cleat on the bow
  • Remove foresail, leaving a bare pole. Secure halyard elsewhere, using storage line to keep furler head from skying
  • Depending on severity, either tie lines around mainsail or remove it from the boom and secure it below decks
  • Ensure all hatches are dogged
  • Remove all canvas covers
  • Replace ventilators with flat caps
  • Ensure all seacocks are closed -- definitely sink -- questions about others?
