The web server runs Debian, etc.  ~root/log contains a list of the things that I did to bring the system into its current configuration.  The server is physically located upstairs in the Sailing Pavilion in a locked black box.  It is set up to allow people to log in using their Athena passwords as long as they have a local account (the local password works, but is not mandatory).  The web space is located in ~mitna/public_html (configured in the Apache config files to be the root server for sailing.mit.edu).  I usually add people to group 'mitna', which has permission to write ~mitna/public_html.

Revision as of 15:08, 12 October 2006

This page contains various notes for the MITNA Executive Committee.

Tasks that MITNA has to do throughout the year:

  • Reserve Lobby 10 for a sailboat the week after Spring Break. The Campus Activities Complex only accepts reservations the week after Thanksgiving, and we've had some trouble convincing them to do this in the past.
  • Call an annual meeting for the second or third week after classes start in the fall.

Things that MITNA should perhaps look into doing:

  • Change the prescribed time for annual meetings in the constitution.
  • Clarify the relationship between sailing cards and MITNA membership.

Things that plam will do before leaving:

  • re-set up the gallery and populate it. Put a random picture link on the main page, served from the gallery.

To edit the wiki, log in as 'mitna'. The password is the name of the regatta that happens every October, as one word (no caps).

Server details:

The web server runs Debian, etc. ~root/log contains a list of the things that I did to bring the system into its current configuration. The server is physically located upstairs in the Sailing Pavilion in a locked black box. It is set up to allow people to log in using their Athena passwords as long as they have a local account (the local password works, but is not mandatory). The web space is located in ~mitna/public_html (configured in the Apache config files to be the root server for sailing.mit.edu). I usually add people to group 'mitna', which has permission to write ~mitna/public_html.

The server is now backed up using TSM. The username is 'sailing'.

sailing.mit.edu has a static IP address and the DNS name is registered to Athletics. Carol Elder administers systems for Athletics but is not involved with actually running this computer.

Mailing list details:

MITNA runs a number of mailing lists. Some of the important ones are:

  • mitna: reaches all members of MITNA.
  • mitna-exec: executive committee members
  • sailing-request: controls many other lists and is a general help address
  • mitna-wednesday, mitna-wednesday-inst: questions about wednesday lessons and list of wednesday instructors
  • mitna-sunday, mitna-sunday-inst: same for sunday
  • mitna-learn: I think this contains mitna-wednesday and mitna-sunday
