Notice of Race:  2016 Charles River Team Race sponsored by MIT Nautical Association.

  1.   Rules: The Racing Rules of Sailing and their Appendix D, rules of the MIT Sailing pavilion and of MIT DAPER, shall govern the races.
    1. It is not the intention of the organizers to umpire the racing.
    2. Protests will be adjudicated by “3 Minute Justice” this modifies RRS 63. This will be fully explained in the SI’s and at the competitor’s briefing.
  2. Racing shall be in Fireflies and FJs supplied by MIT Sailing.
  3. Registration will be completed online using the link on the MIT Sailing website.  Registrations shall not be final until payment is received.
    1. Final registration and weigh in’s shall be at 08:30 on 6/25.
    2. Competitor’s briefing will be held at 09:00 on 6/25.
    3. First start will be @ 09:30 on 6/25.
    4. First warning on 6/26 will be 09:30.
    5. Although there is no time limit on either day, conditions permitting, it is the intention not to run round robins after 15:00 on 6/26.
  4. There will be 2 divisions.
    1. Youth teams shall comprise solely of competitors who have never competed in college and are under the age of 19 at the time of the regatta.
    2. In the round robins all teams will race each other.
  5. As per MIT DAPER regulations all competitors shall wear helmets and PFDs approved by their national authority while on the water. 
    1. Helmets shall not be supplied by MIT.
    2. Helmets shall have a chin strap.  Any helmet with a chin strap will suffice.  Examples are: ironworker’s, football, bike, rollerblade, ski, kayak …. Or even sailing.
  6. All teams shall weigh at least 870 lbs.
    1. Competitors shall weigh in in light sailing attire, shorts, t-shirts, helmets and sneakers, not with PFDs. 
    2. At the discretion of the OA and RC teams are subject to reweighs at any time.
    3. Competitors shall not protest under this instruction.
    4. All boats shall bring at least one 1 gallon jug to be used for ballast.
    5. MIT shall not supply ballast containers.
    6. Only water shall be used as ballast.
  7. General entry fee shall be $100.00 per boat ($300.00). Entry fee for MIT/NU teams shall be $75.00 per boat ($225.00)
  8. There shall be a damage deposit of $150.00 per team. 
    1. In the event the damage deposit is used either in whole or in part, it shall be made whole before the team is allowed to resume sailing
    2. MIT Sailing shall be the sole arbiters of damage.
  9. Sailing instructions shall be available online before the commencement of racing.
  10. The regatta shall consist of round robin(s) sailed in Fireflies and FJs.
  11. The rotation will be based on a modified Swiss league.
  12. The regatta will not be scored solely based on a team’s record.
