Introduction to the Rhodes 19
No Upcomming Dates
Note: Class size limit: 12. While walk-in's are welcome, we prefer if you pre-register.
Description
MIT has six Rhodes-19 sailboats in its fleet. Most of these 19-foot sloops have a fixed heavy keel which makes them more stable than the tech dinghy. Their larger size can accomodate 2 to 8 people. This class will teach you the basics of how to get started sailing on the Rhodes-19. The class is taught directly on the dock and boats, so come ready to be on the sail boats.
- How to rig the R-19s
- How to unrig and put away the R-19s
- Proper trim of the jib sail
- Leaving a mooring under sail
- Picking up a mooring under sail
- General tips for sailing the R-19
Requirements
- A provisional rating is required to sail the Rhodes-19, therefore we ask that MIT sailors get their provisional rating before taking this class.
- Pre-register above if possible, but walk-ins are welcome up to a class size of 12.
