Catamaran Classes
You must have a catamaran rating to sail the multi-hull boats. Introductory classes are available to help you obtain a basic catamaran rating. Class size is limited to 2 people for the on-the-water portion, but more people may attend the rigging/de-rigging and 'classroom' instruction on the dock. You must have a provisional rating. Pre-Registration is required. The average wind speed must be 6 knots or higher.

| maximum wind speed | requirements |
|---|---|
| up to 8 knots |
|
| over 8 knots |

The catamaran is a fast boat and requires significantly more athletic ability than a dinghy. The boat easily reaches half the wind speed, and it is not unusual to match or even exceed the wind speed. Not only is the boat fast, it is very responsive. A quick turn can easily throw the skipper or crew off the boat or skewer another sailboat.
