Fran and Mike Racing an R-19

Description

MIT has six Rhodes-19 sailboats in its fleet. Most of these 19-foot sloops have a fixed heavy keel which makes them more stable than the tech dinghy. Their larger size can accomodate 2 to 8 people. This class will teach you the basics of how to get started sailing on the Rhodes-19. The class is taught directly on the dock and boats, so come ready to be on the sail boats.

  • How to rig the R-19s
  • How to unrig and put away the R-19s
  • Proper trim of the jib sail
  • Leaving a mooring under sail
  • Picking up a mooring under sail
  • General tips for sailing the R-19

Requirements

  • A provisional rating is required to sail the Rhodes-19, therefore we ask that MIT sailors get their provisional rating before taking this class.
  • Pre-register above if possible, but walk-ins are welcome up to a class size of 12.
