NE Team Race Championship, Fowle Trophy

MIT is proud and excited to host the 2012 NEISA Team Racing Championship for the Fowle Trophy. The event will be sailed in MIT's FJs with 2012 North sails, with the consolation round taking place in MIT Fireflies with North Sails. The report time for the event will be 0830, as stated in the attached SIs. It should be noted that competitors should arrive and starters should change into sailing gear with pinnies on, and walk across the street to Walker Memorial for a brief ceremony (the beginning of MIT's dock dedication and fleet dedication) followed by the competitors meeting. There will be a fully catered breakfast at said ceremony. Matt Cohen will serve as PRO, Steve Wolff will be the chief umpire, and Bill Healy will be the NEISA rep. Eric Gibber with the assistance of Alvar Saenz Otero and some MIT undergrads will in charge of scoring.

The NEISA seeding committee has broken up the regatta into 2 groups - group A and group B (see below). The rotation, made up by BC alum and sailing coach Alden Reid, has both groups sailing at the same time (basically, Group A sails odd number flights, and group B sails even number flights). This ought to give coaches ample time to talk to players as each team has 1 flight off between races in the qualifying round.

After the qualifying round, the 4 teams eliminated will sail a consolation round robin (un-umpired, likely) in Fireflies, while the
rest of RR1 will be sailed in MIT FJs.

The logistics of sailing at MIT will be the same as always: parking is best on the Westbound side of Memorial Drive, or in the Hayward St. Lot: http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=P5 . Between the regatta and the ceremony, there will be 300-400 people on hand; valuables are best kept locked in your vehicles or deposited in the lock box in the lobby. DO NOT LEAVE WALLETS, PHONES, IPODS, OTHER VALUABLES IN YOUR GEAR BAGS. Coaching will occur from the MIT Sailing docks, though we may have a coach boat available for the final 6 round robin. The 2 bathrooms in the pavilion often have long lines at large events, we recommend also using the facilities in the basement of Walker Memorial to expedite your break.

The forecast looks a bit chilly but the breeze looks to be almost ideal for smooth rotations.
