The Inaugural MIT Championship for the Sir Ian McFarlane Trophy
and the 14th Annual Brass Rat Regatta

NOTICE OF RACE

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing set by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).

1.2 The prescriptions of the US national authority will apply.

1.3 The class rules of the intercollegiate dinghy class as described The Procedural Rules for Intercollegiate Sailing Competition Fall 2005-Spring 2008 will apply.

2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 The Sir Ian McFarlande Trophy is open to all MIT students and alumni sailors who submit a completed Entry Form.
There is no entry fee for MIT students and alumni, but continued contributions to the sailing pavilion are strongly encouraged.

2.2 The Brass Rat regatta is open to MIT students and alumni as well as all other sailors who submit a completed Entry Form and postmark their entry fee check to:

prior to October 2nd, 2006. Do not attempt to deliver entries to the MIT Sailing Pavilion.

3 FEES

The entry fee is $ 50 for Non-MIT students and alumni.
There is no fee for MIT students and alumni.

4 SCHEDULE

Saturday, October 7, 2006
0800 to 0830 Check in, T shirt distribution and Boat Assignments.
0845 Competitors' Meeting immediately followed by racing.
12 noonish Lunch break with PB, Jelly and Fluff provided.
1300- 1730ish Racing continues.
1800 Redbones Dinner for all competitors at the sailing pavilion immediately following the racing. Awards for the Inaugural Sir Ian McFarlane Sailing Championship of MIT.
ALL participants are strongly urged to stay for dinner and awards after sailing.

Sunday, October 8, 2006

0900-0915 Check in and Boat Assignments.
0930-1430 Racing continues with a brief lunch break (leftovers) between sets.
1500 Racing concludes followed by Brass Rat Trophy presentation.

5 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available at registration.

6 VENUE

Racing will be conducted from the MIT Sailing Pavilion on the Charles River lower basin. Parking is available on Memorial Drive westbound, the lower end of Ames Street or the Hayward Street MIT parking lot. Bring a bailing bucket, tell tales, water bottle, sun screen and a good attitude.

7 SCORING and FORMAT

7.1 Scoring will be the Low Point System with no discard races. Byes may be implemented if we are oversubscribed.

7.2 The Sir Ian McFarlane Sailing Championship of MIT will be scored from races sailed on Saturday only. Competitors who are eligible shall be scored in alumni, undergraduate student or graduate student divisions. Additionally, there will be a division for the top MIT woman. All four will be declared the 2006 Champions of MIT Sailing and their names shall be engraved on a plaque to be displayed permanently in the lobby of the pavilion beneath the Sir Ian McFarlane Cup.

7.3 The Brass Rat Regatta will be the sum of all races sailed on both Saturday and Sunday. The Brass Rat Champion will be declared at the conclusion of Sunday's racing.

7.4 All races will be sailed using the MIT Sailing Pavilion fleet of Tech Dhingys (hull, sail, tiller and rudder).

7.5 All Brass Rat races must be sailed Single-Handed.

9 SAFETY

All competitors shall wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD at all times while on the water. There are plenty available at the pavilion.

10 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
